Ok this one had me seriously stuck last night and pretty much all day yesterday. It was a 3gs 16gb which I had rebuilt from scratch, new rear case, new front screen assembly, new battry and new power ribbon flex. It was originally running ios 3.1.3 on baseband 05.12.01. So I downloaded original IOS 5.0.1 and used latest version of Redsn0w to jailbreak the device. It went well, no problems. The I used Ultrasn0w within Cydia to unlock the phone. And that was when the issue started, the phone would recognise my sim card but would keep loosing the signal every 10-20 seconds! I re-jailbroke, resinstalled ultrasn0w, reinstalled mobile substrate, everything and nothing worked.
I did seriously contemplate installing the ipad baseband but thankfully decided not to, heed the warning on Redsn0w about your serial number and installing ipad baseband.
Anyway eventually I went back to the good old faithful Sn0wbreeze (latest version) and although it does keep my signal for longer, I do still keep loosing the signal from time to time.
The problem has been a real difficult one to conquer, but I will spend today working on it to try and fix. I will post my progress here later :(
